Peace
Lutheran Church . . . A Place to celebrate God’s love in worship,
fellowship and service to others
Website
Welcome
Hi, and welcome to Peace Church’s website. Whether you are a
visitor or a current member, I hope that you find this website
informative and enjoyable. We hope you will find our website
helpful in telling you about our church.
Our Call Progress
At the present time, Pastor Phyllis Hormann serves as our full time,
Intentional Interim pastor. The Lord
has blessed the people of Peace with many spiritual gifts. A new
beginning is at hand as our Interim Task Force committee has
completed the evaluation process in preparing our church for calling a
permanent pastor—and our Call Committee was commissioned on November 2.
Pray for us in our search for a permanent pastor.
Worship
Holy
Communion is being celebrated every Sunday at our 10:30 worship service. During Advent and Lent, Wednesday night services are
very moving, often using the music from the "Holden Evening Prayer." Sunday school is held at
10:30 a.m. from September thru
May during the same time as our weekly service, but on the last Sunday of
each month children join us in the regular church by taking part in some
of the readings and duties during the service. We have a tradition of including
exciting, interactive programs like “Bethlehem Village”, for interactive Sunday school experience
and VBS for all ages. Children at Peace, because of our size
are treated very individually, and enjoy worshiping and growing up and
being cherished by a multigenerational community. We have 3
choirs, and several musicians so that any age or music ability and
talent can find a praise outlet here.
Service
The people of Peace are involved in outreach, through our partnership with
Blessed Hope in Lincoln Park. Through them, we are able to help
others with food, housing and clothing needs. Each July
we celebrate “March to the Manger”, which allows us to shop for items for
needy children. This provides them with a little “Christmas in
July”. We participate in the Wyandotte CROP Walk.
Peace also participates in Lutheran World Relief’s fair trade coffee
project. Our fundraising efforts through sales and dinners often
qualify for matching funds through Thriven for Lutherans, and benefit
local and world-wide needs. This summer we fielded a team to work in
Detroit on a Habitat for Humanity project. Other designated missions for
this year are World Medical Relief, and the Mercy Center, in Detroit. We
have an active tech team that runs our sound equipment, and is involved in
the production of PowerPoint presentations used frequently to enhance our
services and meetings.
Education
Several programs are running, here at Peace, for your spiritual growth.
The Sunday school did a program called “Bethlehem Village” followed
by a sister program called
“Galilee by the Sea”. Similar programs were incorporated for our
Vacation Bible School. We are blessed with a group of creative adults who
work hard to creative very exciting, meaningful programs for our kids. We
have an annual Halloween Party, and we host a local girl scout troop. Adults
have participated in the “Just Reading the
Bible” program on Sunday, the Thursday morning bible study program, and
other bible study opportunities on most Sunday mornings during the year at
9:00.
Fellowship
You’ll also notice a lot of social events in the “Activities” section of
the website*. Some feel, and rightly so, that this sort of
fellowship is almost as important as bible study! Our "Seniors" are
embarking on some interesting and informative trips and service projects. Our
ladies are involved in an active schedule of book clubs & social
outings, and are actively engaged in raising funds for various needs.
Our high school youth
attend the Michigan Lutheran Youth Gathering, and the Bass Lake Music
Festival.
If you decide to visit,
you’ll notice that we are what I call a “lingering church”. We are a warm
and friendly group. There’s coffee, tea, and hot cocoa in the parlor.
Pour yourself a cup, take a cookie, and introduce yourself to someone.
This is Peace at her best.
Finally, if you have any
questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me at pushmant@yahoo.com. I’ll
look forward to hearing from you.
