ebsite Welcome
Hi, and welcome to Peace Church’s website.  Whether you are a visitor or a current member, I hope that you find this website informative and enjoyable.  We hope you will find our website helpful in telling you about our church.

Peace Lutheran Church . . . Boldly Sharing Christ’s Peace

Worship
We have two Sunday services services, 9:00am and 10:30am.  Though, unlike years ago, the two services will be different in worship formats.

Many people dearly value the traditions of Peace and a more traditional worship format.    People in this category will find a nice home at the 9:00am service.  Worship will be very much what we’re accustomed to and what we learned to most relate over the many years here at Peace.  There will be traditional order of worship, mostly traditional organ music, sermons and gowned acolytes when they are available.  In this service, sometimes we’ll be worshiping from the good ‘ole “Setting Number 2 in the Green Book”.  If those are the types of worship services you best relate, and love here at Peace, you’ve got a home at the 9am service!

Now, before getting into what’s in store for the 10:30am service, let me give a little background.  As a kid growing up here at Peace in the 70’s and 80’s, coming to church on Sunday was still the norm in society.  That’s what most families did.  And coming to church was typically a dressy affair, with traditional worship, traditional Bible studies, and Sunday School.  Churches all over the area had more occupied seats than empty.  And I know this was the case in the generation before me, back in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, probably more.  But now, times have drastically changed.  Going to church is no longer the norm, rather it is the exception.  Many people’s beliefs about church are different then they were.   Priorities of how to spend Sunday mornings have also changed, and what people expect from worship is different too.  Many people let God fall out of their lives for a wide variety of reasons.  For many, the culture of what worked in churches 30, 40, 50 and 60 years ago just doesn’t apply any more.

That’s where the 10:30am service kicks in.  This will be a contemporary service with potentially a wide variety of formats and music styles.  People will be encouraged to come as you are.  Music styles will vary from traditional contemporary Christian music to Latin, Jazz, Reggae, Blues, and African and sometimes even Rock.  Worship will often be more simplistic in nature, appealing to more basic Christian messages in the modern society.    This service has great opportunity to touch lives we’ve never touched before.  Families and Youth will likely feel most at home at this service, but all are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Outreach

The people of Peace are involved in outreach, through our invollvement  with Blessed Hope in Lincoln Park.  Through them, we are able to help others with food, housing and clothing needs.    Each July we celebrate “March to the Manger”, which allows us to shop for items for needy children.  This provides them with a little “Christmas in July”.  We participate in the Wyandotte CROP Walk.   Our fundraising efforts and hands-on charitable projets often qualify for matching funds through Thrivent for Lutherans, and benefit local and world-wide needs. This summer we fielded a team to work in Detroit on a Habitat for Humanity project. Other designated missions for this year are World Medical Relief, and the Mercy Center, in Detroit. We have an active tech team that runs our sound equipment, and is involved in the production of PowerPoint presentations used frequently to enhance our services and meetings.

Education
Several programs are running, here at Peace, for your spiritual growth.  The Sunday school did a program called “Bethlehem Village”  followed by  a sister program called “Galilee by the Sea”. Similar programs were incorporated for our Vacation Bible School which in the past years has been a shared experience with Emmanuel and St Phillips Lutheran churches, our neighbors, downriver. We are blessed with a group of creative adults who work hard to creative very exciting, meaningful programs for our kids. We host a  2 local  scout troop, and AA group, and a TOPS group.  Adults have participated the Thursday morning bible study program.

Fellowship
You’ll also notice a lot of social events in the “Activities” section of the website*.  Some feel, and rightly so, that this sort of fellowship is almost as important as bible study!   Our ladies are involved in an active schedule of book clubs & social outings, and are actively engaged in raising funds for various needs.  Our high school youth attend the Michigan Lutheran Youth Gathering, and the Bass Lake Music Festival.

If you decide to visit, you’ll notice that we are what I call a “lingering church”.  We are a warm and friendly group.  There’s coffee, tea, and hot cocoa in the parlor.  Pour yourself a cup, take a cookie, and introduce yourself to someone.  This is Peace at her best.
